International Expert on Combating Trafficking in Human Beings Rahel Gershuni has been a lawyer for the past 37 years, specializing in the field of criminal justice and evidence. She has served as a defense advocate, as Deputy Director of Israel's Antitrust Authority, and as a Director in Israel's Ministry of Justice where she drafted legislation and legal opinions in both Civil and Criminal Divisions. Her experience in combating trafficking in persons spans 17 years, during which she drafted Israel's Anti Trafficking legislation, served as Israel's National Anti-Trafficking Coordinator and worked in UNODC's Human Trafficking and Migrant Smuggling Section in Vienna. She currently continues to do anti trafficking work with Israeli prosecutors and NGOs and serves as a consultant for UNODC. She has a particular interest in the interface between trafficking in persons and culture and a chapter on that topic was written by her for the recently published Routledge Handbook of Human Trafficking.
